Why trains are the best way to get around Vietnam...

Vietnam's air-conditioned trains are safe, comfortable & inexpensive, theideal way for independent travellers to get around and see Vietnam at groundlevel. The train journeys are an experience in themselves, and become anintegral part of your visit to Vietnam. You might even meet some Vietnamesepeople. Inexperienced travellers sometimes think they'll save time by usinginternal flights - in fact, an overnight train ride from Hanoi to Hué or Danangactually saves time compared to flying, because the train leaves Hanoi citycentre in the evening and arrives in Hué city centre next morning, but it's morethan this, the train journey is a genuine Vietnamese experience, flying is awasted opportunity. Flying takes 4 or 5 hours out of your sightseeing day ingetting to a remote airport, checking in, taking the flight itself, collectingyour bags and getting back into the city centre. And the sleeper train saves ahotel bill, too.

Hue is an express stop on the main north-south train line between Hanoi and HoChi Minh City. The train station is located at the eastern end of Le Loi Road,on the south bank of the river Ben Ngu. Express trains are numbered with an SEprefix, and local trains, which cost less but take a lot longer, are prefixedTN. The latter may be your only choice if your destination is not an expressstop -- connecting to a local train from a nearby express stop will usually takelonger than just taking the local all the way there.
